There’s nothing so singularly enjoyable as watching someone explain something they’re passionate about. The Long Now Foundation, I’ve noticed, has intensely dedicated members, and the best of their projects can be found on their YouTube channel.
I grew up close enough to the La Brea Tar Pits to visit at least annually; Holocene mammals happen to be one of my passionate-explanation topics. Naturally, I had to watch the recent Ice Age themed video, in which author Craig Childs describes his trips to important early-human sites, emphasizing just how similar we are to them. He comes across as someone who really loves what he does. It was hard reigning in my vicarious thrill.
For a fascinating time, show the Long Now Foundation some love!
